Fleet Foxes | Mykonos [Video]

// February 27th, 2009 // No Comments » // Video

Seattle folk singers, Fleet Foxes have released a video off their EP Sun Giant instead of making one off their self-titled LP. Strange? Crazy? Or just pure genius… Either way, the video was very enchanting (don’t know if that’s a compliment).

Mr. Hudson | There Will Be Tears

Hudson

If you own Kanye’s, 808 and Heartbreaks, you heard Mr. Hudson lay his vocals to the track, Paranoid. Best track on the album by the way (my opinion).  Well Mr. Hudson isn’t new to the music scene.  Back in 2007 Mr. Hudson and the Library dropped an album called,  A Tale of Two Cities (Check out a video from their album after the jump).  There is a touch of ska, rock, hip-hop and calypso on the album.  Which turned out to be a first rate debut album.

Mr Hudson is signed to Kanye’s imprint, G.O.O.D. Music and might be ready to live up to Kanye’s bold statement, “I believe Mr. Hudson has the potential to be bigger than me, to be one of the most important artists of his generation.” Time and quality of music will tell, but we’ll be the judges, come later this year.  Check out a snippet for, There Will Be Tears that might be on the  album.  Off to a good start if you ask around the cafe.

Alex And Sam| See You Through

alex and sam 325x500 Alex And Sam| See You Through

Warm weather and quiet times have been on my mind, it could be that city life has taken a toll on me, thus the reason for a much needed vacation.  West coast duo Alex and Sam have temporarily (music wise) provided a remedy for the time being.  American idol hopeful Samantha Sidley (Sam) who auditioned last season and wowed the judges, never quite made it on the show, rumor has it that after being selected to Hollywood, she was a no show.  Nowadays, that’s considered a smart move.  Thankfully, the machinery did not taint Sidley and she’s stayed true to her music roots.  After hearing her audition, there’s no doubt in my mind that she may have won the competition.  Moving on to present times and Silverlake California has one delightful band on the brink of noteriety.  Here’s a soothing tune “See You Through” from there EP “Sounds Like This One” in stores now.

// February 27th, 2009 // No Comments » // Listening Section, Video

Got a call from one of our underground Cafe contributors letting us know that Mickey Factz, has a show on BET called Rhyme and Reason.  While I could care less about BET.  We’ve got nothing but love for Mickey Factz over at the cafe.  He has a new Honda commercial (above) and the track, “Sensibility,” which is looping in the background is below.

Hey Ocean | A Song About California

// February 27th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Video

Over this past month we’ve been taking a look at a few bands that are performing at SXSW this year.  One of the bands that caught our attention was, Hey Ocean!.  Hey Ocean! are a Indie/Pop/Funk band from Canada.  While the above video may seem like polished pop, there are so many elements being poured into this song.  From folk, jazz, funk, hip hop, to pop.  After downloading a couple of their tracks from their 2008, It’s Easier To Be Somebody Else, we are impressed.  Lyrically driven songs with just the right amount of harmonies.  If your heading to the SXSW, check these guys out.

my toys like me 418x500 My Toys Like Me| Sick Couple

Glastonbury fav and soon to be Ting Tings killer (sarcasm) “My Toys Like Me” is next up in our line of rarest finds. For a split second I thought Jack Davey had gone electronic and J*Davey was no more! not to worry, it was the tasty vocals of Francis Noon and production from Lazlo Legezer. There debut LP “Where We Are” is seeing the light of day on May 4th. Check out “Sick Couple” the likeable tune from a group that is sure to be on our list of future listens.
