Metric| Sick Muse (Official Video)

// May 29th, 2009 // No Comments » // Video

Metric have released there new video for “Sick Muse” from there incredible (stress that word) Fantasies album. We love the retro feel that the band is giving off, but what we don’t understand is the budget of this video? still a great song and one of our favorites of this year.

Daniel Merriweather continues to put his stamp on covers.  We’re starting to believe that if he was to put out a separate album full of Cat Powers covers, it could be the best thing we’ve heard in quite sometime.  Merriweather stopped by Radio One last week with host Jo Wiley and delivered what may well be the best damn cover our ears and yours, will grace this year.  From what we’ve noticed, he seems to have a thing for pop songs and La Roux’s “In For The Kill” was his latest target.  A soulful classic rendition that you don’t mind grooving to.  A+ performance.  Check out the orginal after the click.

White Rabbits| Percussion Gun (Official Video)

// May 29th, 2009 // No Comments » // Video

White Rabbits have released there video for the track “Percussion Gun” off of there latest album The Frightening which is in stores now. Besides heavy comparisons to there Cold War Kids/Radiohead sound, this six piece set from Brooklyn are ready for a breakout year. A solid piece of work and great concept if you ask us, where just trying to get over the sudden dizziness due to excessive viewing.

Chrisette Michele| Don’t Speak (No Doubt Cover)

// May 28th, 2009 // No Comments » // Video

Chrisette Michele recently stopped by for a performance at yahoo’s Pepsi smash. Covering No Doubts “Don’t Speak” is no easy task, but then again this is Chrisette and she could sing hanging upside down and still sound relevant. Make sure you pick up her latest album “Epiphany” which is in stores now.

Side Note- We still prefer the Leela James version.

Regina Spektor | Laughing With [Video]

// May 28th, 2009 // No Comments » // Video

The official video for Regina Spektor’s, Laughing With, off her album, Far, is out. I wasn’t sure if she was going to make this track or Blue Lips the lead single. Nonetheless, I’m happy with this one. My main gripe would be the video. I don’t think it does the song justice. It would have been better if Regina played out the scenarios she sung about in the video. Sure that’s been done before….but so has removing your head and continuing to sing.  We also included another video off her album, entitled, Dance Anthem of the 80s (after the jump)

Far is out June 22nd!

themarsvolta The Mars Volta | Since Weve Been Wrong

Yesterday before we hit up the Mercury Lounge, to check out Those Dancing Days (great show + interview here), some of the staff got together and do what we always do…talk about music.  Our conversation eventually lead us to reminiscence about At The Drive In, and what could have been.  If you don’t know their back story, At The Drive In, broke up and became Sparta and The Mars Volta (Omar and Cedric, pic above).  Two very different groups with diverse sounds.  If you I had to choose one, it would be The Mars Volta.  Their past albums have been Pink Floyd like, touching on progressive rock with jazz and punk influences.  Since We’ve Been Wrong is the lead single to their album, Octahedron, which is due June 23rd.

If you been reading this site on a regular basis, you know we are huge fans of Broken Records.  So huge we put them on our Fresh Faces for 2009 list.  They are a fairly new band that formed back in 2007 and have been generating buzz ever since.  Their diverse sound is attributed to the collective members of the group that bring their different musical experience to the band.  Their debut album, Until The Earth Begins To Part, is scheduled to be released June 1st (Pre-Order Here).  Check out a track off their album entitled, Nearly Home.  You might remember the beat from this previous post.
