The Roots | How I Got Over [Video]

// June 25th, 2009 // No Comments » // Video

The Roots have been booming from the cafe since I went to their picnic earlier this month (review here).  So needless to say I’m excited I have new material to listen to this morning.  Their new single and title track, How I Got Over, premiered on Fallon last night.  Black Thought flows effortlessly (when doesn’t he) on this soulful track.  New Roots album, How I Got Over, dropping this Fall (October 20th to be exact). Official video for this track will be out next month.

*Allow me to put on my backpack.*

Reflection Eternal aka Talib Kweli and Hi -Tek are back again (literally).  Between working on his Idle Warship project and doing a few songs with Mos Def, Kweli join forces with Hi-Tek to release a new album, Revolutions Per Minute, whic is due this fall.  Their lead single, Back Again, is as good as anything they’ve done before (not saying it’s better, just saying the haven’t lost a step together) and features the lovely, Res.  Please don’t make us wait another nine years for your next project guys.

littledragon 498x500 Little Dragon New Album Artwork & Tracklisting

Yesterday we featured news of Little Dragons upcoming Lp “Machine Dreams” to be released in August.  Above is the official artwork for the anticipated album.  Below you can check the tracklisting and read what Yukimi (lead singer) thinks of the sudden change in sound.

The move towards a more electronic sound was a conscious one, Yukimi explains; “These days, humans seem more and more like machines, and as technology evolves, machines feel more human and it becomes fuzzy and beautiful and science fiction-ish. We feel dependent on our machines to create and live, and their sounds reflect us”.

Busdriver | Me-Time (with the pulmonary palimpsest) [Video]

// June 24th, 2009 // No Comments » // Video

A few weeks ago I went to see the Roots in Philly (One of the greatest concert experiences of my life), and saw a group named Busdriver performed. I probably dogged them out in the review I wrote about the show (here). I wrote that they had quality beats, but the lead MC just went off on a tangent when he started rapping.  It still holds true in the above track, but with that being said, I like this video.  Meeeeeeeeeeee-Timeeeeeeeee

Our favorite swedes Little Dragon have decided to follow up there classic self titled debut with a sophomore effort “Machine Dreams” which is slated for an August release.  The band have decided to part with there trip hop ways we’ve grown accustom to and indulge into a heavier electro funk sound.  As long as Yukimi’s warm vocals remain intact then we surely don’t see any problem with the change.  While “Feather” will be the first official single from the album, we got our hands on “Blinking Pigs” a snare drum synth-pop delight that just flat out jams.

GoldenSilvers Golden Silvers| True No.9 Blues (True Romance)

Golden Silvers are the latest installment in our rarest finds catalog.  Hailing from London, this three piece set is creating quite a buzz with there single ‘True No.9 Blues” (True Romance) which draws eerily comparisons to an early Clash sound.  Definitely another band to keep an eye out for in the coming months.  As we continue to move to this tune, somewhere Joe Strummer is smiling.

Dan Black | Symphonies [Video]

// June 22nd, 2009 // No Comments » // Video

London artist and BBC Radio’s 2009 artist to watch, Dan Black, is back and riding another hip-hop track.  This time he takes on Rihanna’s mega pop track, Umbrella.  But unlike the Hypnotize cover, Dan simply borrows the beat to lay down his vocals.  Black is picking up steam on each track he releases.  Keep an eye out for Dan Black’s, Un, album, which drops in July.
