Mr. Hudson | White Lies [Live at The V Festival]

These are visuals from Mr. Hudson’s track, White Lies.  You gotta love the crowd support in the U.K.  Even though no one knew the words (because it’s a fairly new song), people were still dancing and moving along….unlike crowds in the U.S. (especially NY).  Next year, hopefully we could round up some people from the Cafe and go to V Festival 2010.

Elliott Smith | Grand Mal

Elliott+Smith Elliott Smith | Grand Mal

Since Elliott Smith tragic death in 2003, we have heard a few unreleased songs here and there.  Grand Mal is a track off of XO.  It’s been basically collecting dust for over a decade, but it’s the closest we can get to a new Elliott Smith track.

Drake | Successful feat Trey Songz [Video]

One of my favorite cuts off of Drake’s, now legendary, So Far Gone mix tape, Successful, gets a video.  I can’t remember the last time someone with a mix tape had their videos playing on MTV and BET.

Michael Jackson + Benny Blanco | Ain’t No Sunshine [Video]

Fitting title for how the North East weather is looking today, and how the world feels since Michael Jackson’s passing.  I love this video and track. Ain’t No Sunshine video is directed by Isaac Ravishankara. Head over to Benny Blanco’s Myspace page (below) and request he releases the MP3 of this track, today!

Retro | Jason Mraz

Jason+Mraz+jasonmrazstudiojasonmraz266625 Retro | Jason Mraz

Your probably thinking how can we put Jason Mraz in our retro section.  A lot of people know Jason Mraz through his worldwide smash hit single, I’m Yours.  In fact, it’s such a huge hit, it’s the longest running song on the Billboard 100 list.  It has spent 70 weeks on the list and never fell below 40 (Amazing).  But few people know Mr. Mraz has been releasing music since 1999 and got his start playing in local coffee shops in California.  Something we at The Maroon Cafe love and respect.

Lets take a listen back to a song off his first album, Waiting For My Rocket To Come, entitled, Absolutely Zero.

Fanfarlo Fanfarlo| The Walls Are Coming Down

Fanfarlo, the indie based London pop group fronted by Simon Balthazar, have released there latest single “The Walls Are Coming Down.” They continue to surprise us with utter brilliance and dreamy orchestral sounds. Inspirational tune to say the least, but we’re more looking forward to there upcoming Bowery Ballroom performance on September 21st.

D. Julien | 102.5 FM NYC Radio Interview [Part 1 & 2]

We haven’t featured anything from our boy D. Julien in a while, so where is an interview he did with 102.5.  Part 2 is after the jump.

Above is footage of an interview I had with 102.5 FM(Matureradio.net) in NYC before they went off air. Topics discussed were “my musical past, my wordplay, the “Baby It’s Over” record, my Live, Love, Learn project, etc”.

Melanie Fiona Live at SOBs [Video]

Earlier this week we posted an article(here) about Melanie Fiona performing at the legendary S.O.B.’s.  Check the videos from the show after the jump.  Above is her take on the classic Roberta Flack, Killing Me Softly.

The Foreign Exchange | House Of Cards [Video]

Spotted this video on the internets yesterday and since then I’ve probably played it at the cafe at least 15 times.  Phonte and Nicolay deliver a brand new video entitled, House Of Cards.  It’s off the Leave It All Behind CD (something you should own, if you don’t then go out and get it).  Great visuals (directed by Matt Koza) to go along with a equally great song.

KJ | Repeat Official [Video]

Toronto seems to be trying to rival Brooklyn in producing quality music this year.  Already blessing us with Drake, Melonie Fiona, and K’naan, another product of the T.O., KJ is an hip-hop artist ready to take the world by storm.  We were reading his bio, and one of the sentences pretty much sum up how every musician should feel about their music.

He refers to his music as a whole new style; a new sound , nothing that’s on you radio, but its whats going to be on the radio and my timing is perfect.

We love that line.   Keep an ear out for KJ on the cafe menu in the near future
