Jack Penate recently stopped by KCRW for an interesting interview and performance on Morning Becomes Eclectic. We’re loving the Talking Heads cover, his album “Everything Is New” is in stores now.

Tuesday night Florence & The Machine stopped by Letterman to perform her track Kiss With A Fist. Visuals above.
We’ve had a few bands over the course of this year that have impressed us and after last weeks events during our first official music festival, we’re adding another to that list. Local Natives not only made us salivate over there incredible live performances at The Mercury & Delancey Lounge, but add a few other well known websites to the mix. Blessed with glorious spot on harmonizing vocals, this West Coast quintet became instant favorites and even brought a crowd over from across the pond, where there music is well known.
A tremendous buzz is growing and they definitely have the momentum, “Gorilla Manor” there upcoming debut has already been receiving rave reviews. Here’s “Warning Sign” a beautiful homage to one our favorite groups of all time, “The Talking Heads.” When asked about the cover, Taylor (lead vocals) went on to say “When doing a song from a group of such stature, you have to make it your own.”

Idle Warship (Talib Kweli, Res & Graph Nobel) welcomes you to our first full length offering, Party Robot. This started out as a path to musical freedom. When we established Idle Warship, we did it for us. Now that we are giving you this music, Idle Warship no longer belongs to us, it belongs to the world. We don’t believe in labels for music. Labels make stop you from hearing something before you listen to it. We appreciate those who have taken this journey with us without judgment and enjoyed the ride. To everyone who purchased our music on iTunes and anyone who has bought a ticket to an Idle Warship show, this is for you. All my party robots stand up!

Out of the few bands I’ve seen of the 1,250 that played during the CMJ Festival , Patrick Watson performance was the best. He has been a favorite around these parts for a while. The Canadian singer-songwriter played a set at the Mercury Lounge last week Thursday. Check the audio from the show below and some pics also.

Ellie Goulding, the 22 year old Herefordshire native has been all over the place lately and is on a whirlwhind tour. A record signing to Polydor a few months back, opening act for Little Boots, flying back and forth from London and New York to work on her debut album due next Summer, and recently stopping by Jools Holland to perform her current smash hit “Under The Sheets.” London D gave me a shout out a few days back and while I’ve always knew Ellie would soar and become Brits next big thing, but I’m amazed at how quickly things are taking off for her! regardless Goulding is about to invade your 2010, CMJ can start with the booking now.
Side Note- Turns out that our dark horse may be crossing the finish line first.
After last week’s tumultuous task of seeking out hotly tipped shows at our first official CMJ, it was nearly impossible to attend every show and some groups literally got lost in the shuffle. Boston’s own Bodega Girls fell victim and not by choice either. With a line-up of 500 bands, being overlooked can be accomplished easily. A year later, a slew of remixes and a much bigger fan base, new material has arrived from a group we’ve always had high hopes for, and if “Ain’t That Cold” is any indication of future work, then the upcoming new year is looking quite promising and if you need validation, just ask Spin Magazine.

Wale and producer Mark Ronson, sample John Mayer, track 3X5 for Wale’s, Letter. He writes to Obama and Tupac on this one. Letter was suppose to be on Wale’s forthcoming debut album, Attention Deficit ( out 11/10), but it didn’t make the cut.
Did anyone catch Wale on the Bet Hip-Hop Cypher [here] last night? What happen to his emotion? Your freestyle was tight, but your energy is what killed [not in a good way] the performance.
