I’ve talked about Ours plenty of times since opening up the Cafe, late last year, but never ran a feature on them.  Well, Ours is today’s Cafe Spotlight.  Ours is the brainchild of Jimmy Gnecco (picture of above).  They’ve been through countless band members since their inception in 1992, but the one constant is Mr. Gnecco.  The band today (and we literally mean today) is made up of Jimmy Gnecco (vocals, guitar), Static (guitar), Locke (guitar, keys) and Race (bass).

There are certain music groups or musicians that make you wonder why aren’t they famous. By famous, I mean having national fame and selling out huge venues every night. Ours is one of those groups. I was first introduced to them back in 2001. I remember seeing a video on MTV2 with a dude dressed in tight leather clothes running up and down the screen. Now normally I would change the channel without hesitation, but it was something about his voice that made me give the video a chance. Honestly, I was so impressed by Jimmy Gnecco’s voice that I download some of Our’s music. Great move! The few tracks I heard were so good that I bought the CD. The name of the video was Sometimes and eight years later I still listen to their first CD, Distorted Lullabies.

Eight years later, Ours has released two more CDs, Precious (2002) and Mercy (Dancing for the Death of an Imaginary Enemy) (2008). Been on countless tours, with the likes of Ocean Colour Scene, Pete Yorn, The Cult, Powderfinger, Marilyn Manson, and The Wallflowers to name a few. While they haven’t caught on big with the mainstream public, they have a steady following of fans (which include me). Check out the track that made me a fan of Jimmy Gnecco and Ours, and also check out their addicting track, Ran Away To Tell The World (Why isn’t this a single yet).
