Maroon Cafe Spotlight| Those Dancing Days (Interview)
// May 26th, 2009 // Cafe Spotlight, Interviews

Swedens most popular girl group Those Dancing Days, will be in New York City tonight at the legendary Mercury Lounge, this marks there first ever gig here in the states. A mixture of Northern Soul & Pop would be the perfect fusion to describe there sound. When I first got a chance to hear there music, I knew they would be a pretty big deal, there everything you could want from a girl group at there age (all under 20) in case your wondering. While in town Bassist Mimi decided to stop through for a quick interview to discuss the orgins of TDD, traveling to the Big Apple & the definition of a popular foot game in Stockholm.
H.Q. I heard that the name “Those Dancing Days” came from a “Led Zeppelin” song, is that true?
MM: That is true. I was scrolling through my iTunes-list one night looking for good song names or lines from songs that could be used as a band name. I thought the song “Dancing Days” by Led Zeppelin would make a good name so then that was that.
H.Q. Linnea has a strong southern influence when she sings, what/who inspired her?
MM: While growing up, Linnea listened a lot to soul so that was the natural way to go when it came to sing herself.

H.Q. What’s the feeling of playing in the states for the first time? when you think of New York City, what word comes to mind?
MM: That’s a dream you really don’t want to put words on, just because then it might not come true. But now when we are at the point of soon flying over there the feeling is just very very excited and a bit nervous. But we feel quite confident now after just finishing a very good European tour. I have been to New York so I just want to show the others and hoping they will like it the way I do!
H.Q. Besides making great music, what else is the band doing now that the weather is warm?
MM: Well… warm I don’t know in Sweden. Warmer. We just enjoy Stockholm and everything about it. You really appreciate your home town so much more after being on tour for a long time. I don’t think any city is as beautiful as Stockholm in the summer, and it’s very very soon summer!
H.Q. You ladies are still pretty young, do you find time to still enjoy your youth?
MM: I couldn’t think of a greater way to spend my youth than being in a band and tour the world. So yes!

H.Q. If the band could choose only one album to listen to, what album would that be?
MM: Our next album! I don’t know how it will sound yet or how the songs will be but I know we all are going to love it!
H.Q. Give us something that our readers won’t find on the internet about the band?
MM: They should come to a show! Because those youtube-shaky-hands-things just don’t show the whole feeling and the spirit of a live show! And a whole Those Dancing Days show you won’t find on the internet!
H.Q. Lastly, some of our readers want to know what’s the name of the foot game played in the “Hitten” Video?
MM: Well…. I don’t even know how to do it. But if you pause and rewind the tape over and over again I guess people can learn. I have to try. And the silly thing when three of us jumps back and forth at the same time is a dance you learn when you had dance in gym class in middle school. It’s a finish dance called “jenka” in swedish.
