The Maroon Cafe would like to take the time out to announce the launch of Pure Joy Records, which is a newly formed boutique label right here in the heart of the big apple that will specialize in releasing 7″ limited singles.  Instead of becoming a website turned label, PJR will be a separate project but will still hold a heavy connection to TMC.  The main focus of this label is to be a launching pad for new acts in the music industry.  Our inaugural release is tight lipped at the moment but you can be sure with this exciting venture it’s going to be big! Expect more news and updates as the weeks continue.

Looks like we got an update for this years Coachella lineup via twitter. The amazing thing about this is that these acts are going to play for both weekends. So get ready to check out Feist, The Black Keys, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, Bon Iver, Florence + the Machine, La Roux, Radiohead and London D’s personal fav, At The Drive In and many more. Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival will take place April 13-15 and April 20-22. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10am.

Michael Kiwanuka is your BBC Sound of 2012 winner!  Looks like one of our Fresh Faces is off to a very fast start, Kiwanuka topped the prestigious sound of 2012 poll and is the first male to win the contest in over four years.  The 24-year-old North London singer, beat out the likes of 2nd place runner up Frank Ocean, 3rd place Azealia Banks, 4th place Skrillex and lastly, 5th placed Niki and the Dove.  View details below.

Soul singer Michael Kiwanuka has come top of the BBC Sound of 2012 list, which aims to showcase the best rising music stars for the year ahead.  The list, compiled using tips from more than 180 tastemakers – made up of music critics, editors, broadcasters and bloggers – aims to highlight some of the most exciting emerging artists.

Fifteen rising stars have been named on the BBC Sound of 2012 longlist, which aims to highlight music’s most exciting new artists for the year ahead.  The tastemakers included critics, radio DJs and producers, TV presenters and producers, magazine and website editors and respected bloggers.

Tennis is set to release their new single next month from the upcoming second Lp ‘Young and Old.’ We mentioned a few weeks back that the album is being produced by The Black Keys’ Patrick Carney. Hear the first adorable single ‘Origins’ below, full length effort will see daylight on February 14 2012. Origins / Deep In The Woods 7″ is out in December via Forrest Family Records.

We’re looking for a few well motivated superstars who want to help make us living out
the dream continue here at The Maroon Café. For a while we’ve been operating under
a small operation (only two of us,) but that has not deterred us from being one of the
most promising “go to” new music websites on the interwebs. We believe that adding
strong minded members like your selves will only add to this eventual global takeover
that has been planned from the start. As of now we have a few positions available, so
you think you’ve got what it takes to help us and eventually live out the rest of your
lives in style?

Applicants should be willing to go the extra mile and able to perform tasks at very
short notice. We want individuals with a burning desire to make things happen. A no
quit attitude is preferred. There will be a lot of running around for some of these
positions so motivation is essential. What we can promise is that if brought on to the
team, you’ll be a part of something very special (trust us) and fun.

Currently seeking music contributors, camera (photography,video), and interns.
