This past Friday Maroon Cafe swung by (Le) Poisson Rouge to check out Little Dragon.  Sweden’s best kept secret is a band that will be on everyone’s tongue in 2009.  After watching them perform live, it’s safe to say they’re the real deal.

Little Dragon opened up with Håkan Wirenstrand (keyboards), Fredrik Wallin (bass),  and Erik Bodin (Drums)   taking the stage and slowly starting their sexy-bouncy track, “Recommendation.”  The way they played felt like a slow simmer.  As if someone started a fire and was waiting for lighter fluid or the wind to catch.  Yukimi Nagano (vocals) was that lighter fluid.  When she jumped on stage the pace the rest of the band was playing at simmered over and erupted into the crowd.  We were hooked from the opening track.

As the night went on Little Dragon played classic tracks from their catalog such as, Wink, Twice and Forever.  But it was when they revealed one of their newest tracks (video) the crowded lost it.  New Yorkers are notoriously known for not showing love to artist, but on this night, turkey filled belly or not, you can see the crowded bouncing to their new track (we didn’t catch the name).

All in all it was a fun night that made us realize this Swedish Soul Export is destined for bigger and better venues really soon.  At least we can say, we got to see them before they became huge stars.
