Maroon Cafes Fresh Faces For 2009…..

Now that the doors to 2008 have been officially closed, we here at the cafe have kept our eye on a few artists that should be breaking through the new year. While we just may have had one of the most promising years in music, keep your eyes and ears open for what could very well be an even bigger feast of talent on the way. Just remember where you read it first!!!!

Mumford & Sons

Expect the Folk Resurgence to continue with these lads, who have been creating quite a buzz since appearing here in the states. Marcus Mumfords voice alone should put them in the running for breakthrough act of the year.

Jessica Tonder

Call her our secret find of 2008 & for good reason! we expect nothing but the masses to swarm to this vocal beauty who we’re sure has a few Portishead albums in her collection. As of now, Jessica Tonder is quietly making a name for herself but by the end of 09, all that will change.

Daniel Merriweather

This smooth crooner will without a doubt become a household name this year. Plus having super producer Marc Ronson on your side helps also, your sure to see this face a few times here at the cafe who is poised to have a stellar 09 if his debut Love & War sounds like we hope it should.

Alela Diane

After her latest gem was released back in 2006, I’ve been a fan since and was waiting for the rest of the world to catch up to the Nevada City native. Will this be the year that Alela Dianes golden voice goes noticed? or will this folk favorite still be a hidden gem.

I Blame Coco

Yeah we know! Coco Sumner will be the next great thing! besides us telling you back in 2008, we’ll repeat ourselves again.  Blessed with her pops lineage, this gal will carry on the legacy of what should truly be a promising career.

New Look

Brooklyn was where it was at in 2008 & New Look will continue that into 2009. Adam & Sarah have created something special in the magical burrough of hits, blessed with a distinctive sound along with a angelic vocal ability provided by Ms. Ruba that should create major buzz well into the new year.

Little Dragon

What more can we say about the best thing out of Sweden? besides us being fans since the very beginning, we do love how the universe is catching up to the sounds of Gothenburgs finest. Lykke Li had her run and now it is officially and rightfully time for Little Dragon to take center stage!!!

Paolo Nutini

Paolo has created a bit of a buzz for himself with his 2006 debut album, ‘These Streets.’ While the UK(debut #3) showed him love, the US (debut #48) slept on this stellar debut. Stand out tracks such as Rewind, New Shoes, and Last Request are tracks that get played in the cafe to this day.

With his 2009, yet to be entitled album, the now 22 year old Paolo is ready to take the world by storm. We here at the cafe sometimes love to state that it’s the second album from the artist that makes or breaks them. I say if you don’t recognize this fresh face, you will soon.

Mickey Factz

Mickey has owned the cafe in 2009. Granted it’s only January 6th, but it says something for the way he finished his 08 and started this year. With all the upcoming rappers (Asher Roth, Kid Cudi, Charles Hamilton, Wale) that are expected to own 2009, we feel Factz has something to prove and will surpass them all. 09 will be a big year for this fresh face.

Broken Records

Not much is known about this Scottish band that shares their name with a Christian Record label and Swedish band. If we could classify their sound (we hate to do this), but they would be a British Arcade Fire with a splash of Cold War Kids. But we do know they are someone to keep your ear out for this upcoming year. Heck, if we are tuning into BBC Radio One and BBC 6 Music to check them out, then you know they got potential.
