Rilo Kiley

Pictures of Success, is hands down my favorite Rilo Kiley song from Taking-Offs and Landings (maybe my favorite of all-time).  The way it begins and ends is perfect and symmetrical.  If you ask fans of this song or first time listeners to interpret it there will be a lot of different interpretations  of the lyrics.  The best interpretation is getting control over your life and living your life for yourself.   Don’t live up to the expectations that society puts on your shoulders (married before 30, 2.5 kids and the white picket fences). You know your life is meant for something more and you have to break free of every one’s expectations.

But the more I listen to it (especially as I write this post), I think this song is about a dead beat boyfriend that Jenny Lewis is scared of leaving.  Either way, this is a great song and the more you listen, you  can make it whatever you it to be.
