thicke Retro | The Artist Formally Known as Thicke

We remember Robin Thicke when he was a one named artist named Thicke.   In 2002, equipped with long hair, a bike and a style and voice that  was a hybrid of Jamiroquai and Stevie Wonder, we were introduced to him and his dance number, When I Get You Alone.  After waiting for his album, Cherry Blue Skies to be release and only to have it delayed at least 3.4 million times, we figured his project might not see the light of day.  One year later,  Cherry Blue Skies, became A Beautiful World, with two new songs on it to make up for the delay.  But two songs and a new name couldn’t help this album.  Thanks to the wait and lack of promotion it debut at 152 on the Billboard 200.

Fast forward to 2006.  The long haired free spirit soul singer cut his locks decided to change his tempo,  style, and name.  Robin Thicke released The Evolution of Robin Thicke and became an overnight success.  His second single, Lost Without You, reached a lot of fans, but it wasn’t the Thicke we know. The Thicke we knew was bending genres and flowing with creative tracks.  But can we blame him for growing to reach a bigger audience.  Of Course we can!  We will ever see that singer from the early 00′s?  Who knows, but we’ll always have Cherry Blue Skies to listen to.
