We’ll take a break from the present day and go through the time portal for a second, each week the team will bring you something that you may have missed or never knew existed. Retro is what we like to call it, from videos to songs that never really got the shine they deserved, in the meantime enjoy the selections we’re providing and put on the headphones from Middle School where you had to raise your hand if you heard the beep.
Sweetback- You Will Rise
Well we had to dig through the crates on for this one and this was well worth the hunt, besides being one of my favorite songs of all time, no one can argue this beautiful collaboration from Amel larrieux and Sweetback. This is a groove that could be on the charts now (hard to believe that this surfaced in 96) not bad not bad for Sade’s former band whose classic debut album is still in heavy rotation amongst fans.

Well what more can you say about one of the founders of the greatest era there ever was? (sorry disco did not cut it for me) The Clash forefathers of the English Punk movement and unlike The Ramones transcended into the other genres of music, now we here love the first and best band out of N.Y.C. and look forward to posting them in the near future but Joe Strummer and the boys not only touched on rock but experimented with Reggae, Funk & even Rap. While mostly known in the U.S. for there hit Rock the Casbah (which was later MURDERED AND DESTROYED) by Hancock Will Smith. The guys out of Ladbroke Grove had plenty of other hits as well, check below for one of there best IMO and sorry folks if you know your history then you’d know this was the first official Hip-Hop (that’s right) single by a White Band.
