Recently I was just talking to a friend of mine about the state of R&B. There aren’t enough groups out there and we rarely hear any male and female duets. Remember male/female duets. Some of my favorite duets of all-time are, Mariah Carey and Boy II Men, One Sweet Day, Bob Marley and Lauryn Hill, Turn You Lights Down Low, and RL and Deborah Cox, We Can’t Be Friends. Well I think I have another one added to the list.
Enter Daniel Merriweather and Adele tale, Water And A Flame. This isn’t your typical break up and make up R&B song. Daniel starts the first verse off, pining for ex to come back to him. He can’t go an hour without her on his mind. Only to have his ex, Adele on the other hand start her verse trying to forget his name. Drinking her sorrows away and trying to move on. They meet together on the last verse, with Daniel asking “If you see me coming”, only to hear his ex (Adele) reply, “I’ll look away.” Guess we all know who broke up with who on this track.
We are looking forward to Daniel Merriweather’s forthcoming album, Love And War, which drops May 25th in the UK.
