Ellie Goulding Wins Brit Award

Ellie Goulding

Congratulations to our golden girl Ellie Goulding, who picked up top honors with winning Brits Critics’ Choice prize.  The award goes to emerging acts which music critics, plus radio and TV, believe will make a breakthrough in 2010. Previous winners were Florence and the Machine & Adele. Goulding will release her next single “Starry Eyed” on February 22nd followed by her debut album to hit stores in March.

Daniel Merriweather Ft. Adele – Water & A Flame [Video]

Daniel Merriweather returns with his third single “Water & A Flame” from the well slept on “Love and War” album which is in stores now. An Adeleless appearance (which would’ve been huge) prevented us from going on with this post!

Brooklyn MC, The Incomparable Shakespeare samples Adele’s voice and instrumental for his track Hometown Glory. It’s off his upcoming project The British Invasion.  Anything with Adele is a go for us and this isn’t bad.

Florence & The Machine| Cosmic Love

Florence and The Machine

Florence Welch has already achieved more hype than most new artists could only dream of.  Two monstrous singles,  a critics choice award (same award Adele won last year) and one of the most anticipated albums this year.  Florence once again shows why all the above accolades were deserving with her latest effort “Cosmic Love” from the eagerly awaited “Lungs” in stores July 6th.  Emotional-laiden lyrics accompanied by a stellar drum pattern.  Welch is evolving into something special and with catchy effective pop songs like this, how can you doubt it.

Adele | MTV Unplugged

MTV is bringing back probably one of my favorite shows on their network, no not NEXT (can’t believe I just admitted that), but their Unplugged series.  What better way to kick it off then with one of the finest voices in the music business, BRIT graduate, Adele Adkins.  Head over to MTV.com and watch Adele perform, Cold Shoulder (video after the jump), Chasing Pavements, Right As Rain, and many more.  We can’t stress how amazing her voice is live.

Adele | Hometown Glory [Video]

Adele has finally released a video for what is sure to be her last single from 19.  What better song then Hometown Glory.  It’s amazing this song sounds better live then it does recorded.

Adele | Hometown Glory [Live on Letterman]

Grammy Award winner, Adele stop by the David Letterman show last night to perform my favorite track according to my Itunes plays counted, Hometown Glory, off of her debut album 19.

Simply put, this performance is amazing.  Seeing her perform live at the Apple Store a few months ago and watching this video gives us high hopes for her sophmore album.  Which she has been writing for since her US tour ended in late January.

Jack Penate| Tonights Today (Video)

Jack Peñate – Tonight's Today

Jack Penate has finally released his eagerly awaited video for the ever so calypso-esque track “Tonights Today” which has been on repeat since first listen. Although there’s a few moments that raise an eyebrow or two, Penate should have a huge hit on his hands with this one. Expect to hear all through Spring and Summer.

Daniel Merriweather | Water and A Flame featuring Adele

Daniel and Adele

Recently I was just talking to a friend of mine about the state of R&B. There aren’t enough groups out there and we rarely hear any male and female duets. Remember male/female duets. Some of my favorite duets of all-time are, Mariah Carey and Boy II Men, One Sweet Day, Bob Marley and Lauryn Hill, Turn You Lights Down Low, and RL and Deborah Cox, We Can’t Be Friends. Well I think I have another one added to the list.

Enter Daniel Merriweather and Adele tale, Water And A Flame. This isn’t your typical break up and make up R&B song. Daniel starts the first verse off, pining for ex to come back to him. He can’t go an hour without her on his mind. Only to have his ex, Adele on the other hand start her verse trying to forget his name. Drinking her sorrows away and trying to move on. They meet together on the last verse, with Daniel asking “If you see me coming”, only to hear his ex (Adele) reply, “I’ll look away.” Guess we all know who broke up with who on this track.

We are looking forward to Daniel Merriweather’s forthcoming album, Love And War, which drops May 25th in the UK.
