BOB+2 B.O.B Ft. Asher Roth| F The Money [Audio]

B.O.B has released his new mixtape “May 25th” which is available for free download. I’m sure a few folks are thrown back by my post with this one but anytime you can cleverly use a Joni Mitchell sample, then you’ve got my attention. The track features Asher Roth and was produced by K-an-e Wes-. Be on the lookout for talented Georgia native and his official debut album “The Adventures Of Bobby Ray” hitting stores soon.

The Best of Summer of 09

Woke up this morning on my way to the Cafe, and had to pile through the nasty rain, and tons of people on their way to ground zero.  Needless to say, summer is coming to an end.  Early this week we dropped our Maroon Cafe Summer tracks (here), and this morning, we are showing you Quddus, Best of Summer 09 video.

Music festivals are the best thing about the summer and arguably the best one is Lollapalooza. This summer I decided to film as much of my experience there as possible and make a short film out of it. This is what I came up with. The all access perspective brings you right in the mix. It features Lykke Li, Snoop Dogg, Kings of Leon, Asher Roth, Vampire Weekend, Miike Snow, Santigold, Atmosphere, Dan Deacon, Bat for Lashes, Jane’s Addiction and Bon Iver.

Roots Picnic

26690243 26690248 slarge Roots Picnic

*My first draft of this article had about two computer scroll screens of words. I decided to narrow it down to one screen which unfortunately should have been on the site since last Sunday (sorry folks…won’t happen again)*

We arrived at the venue early, partly because I had forgotten to print my tickets and another part was getting in a bit early to soak up the feel. After waiting for a hour to get my tickets printed, we headed into the eye of the storm. As soon as we walked in The Roots started. Perfect timing?  Perhaps..or they knew London D was in the house (I kid I kid). Opening up they let us know we were in for a great show, and they had a few guest they wanted to introduce, The JabbaWokeeZ, Jordan Knight and Donnie Walberg of New Kids on The Block.  While the JabbaWokeeZ did their dance number, Donnie Walberg and Black Thought flowed back and forth.  It’s amazing, that I respect Donnie Walberg more as an actor then a musician.  Surprisingly, he did a good job.  The Roots went through a few hits, such as ‘Get Busy‘ (sans the locked up Peedi Crack), ‘The Web’, and Curtis Mayfield’s, ‘Move on Up.’  After tearing it up for about a half an hour, they let us know who was performing the rest of the day.

Asher Roth | Be By Myself ft Cee-Lo [Video]

You read right folks, Cee-Lo actually appears in a video he is co-featured in (Sorry Estelle).  Looks like the promotion train for Asher keeps going.  You have to respect this kid’s grind.  From making music on myspace, to having his video world premiere on MTV.  His debut album, Asleep In The Bread Aisle, landed at number 3 on the billboard charts last week.   Word around the cafe, is that it’s a solid album.

Asher Roth | As I Em feat. Chester French

Asher Roth

There was a snippet of this track laying around the internets a few days ago, and then a couple of hours later the full version hit.  We were reluctant to post this at first, because it seems like Asher’s entire album has been dropping a single each week leading up to his release.  But hey…better you hear it from us then someone else.

With Chester French on the chorus, Asher Paul Roth address the comparisons to Eminem and the advantages and disadvantages of being a white rapper.  When it comes to Asher a lot of people draw the comparisons because he sounds exactly like Em.  It’s not like they have a similar flow…they have the same exact flow.  So I could understand why people keep asking him about it.  Mr. Roth will have to drop a dope album to get those comparisons to stop.   From the singles that we keep hearing, he is off to a good start.  Asleep in the Bread Aisle drops this April 20th (4/20…coincidence?)

Asher Roth | I Love College [Video]

I’m not completely sold on Asher Roth.  Everything I heard from the kid can be summed up in this video above.  But who knows maybe he can sway my opinion with his debut album, Asleep In The Bread Aisle (track list after the jump).  Remember, I’m not saying I don’t like this kid….I just need to see some more substance.

Kid Cudi | Stoner Charm Mixtape

Kid Cudi

Fresh off of watching the rap influenced Grammys, we decided to keep the rap theme going this morning by giving you guys a link to Kid Cudi’s mixtape, Stoner Charm.  Featuring, Santogold, Asher Roth, Talib Kweli, Mr Hudson (we want to hear more from this artist), and many more, this is truly stoner music at it’s finest. Listening to this mixtape over the past days, we feel Kid Cudi is an artist who is trying to find his sound. There are many highs (no pun intended) on this mixtape as well as lows.

XXL’s Top 10 Freshman Issue

20081020 xxl XXLs Top 10 Freshman Issue

This list can be argued (what list can’t…well, maybe the ten commandments) and I’m sure there are a lot of artists as well as fans who feel people were left off. But you can’t deny the hunger and work that these Freshman have been putting in.  We’ve posted a few songs and news from some of these artist.  Seriously, it’s about time XXL did something right (besides getting rid of Elliott Wilson) and not have an artist from Interscope on their cover.
