El Perro Del Mar| Shelter [The XX Cover]

From commercials to sold out gigs and countless number of posts on other websites, it seems just about everyone is in awe of The XX. El Perro Del Mar recently showed her appreciation for the Wandsworth England threesome.  Above is a brilliant cover of “Shelter” which is also a favorite of ours from the album.  Pretty sublime if you ask us.

Barbara| Pursuit Of Happiness [Kid Cudi Cover]

Barbara Barbara| Pursuit Of Happiness [Kid Cudi Cover]

Barbara seems to be a folk band based out in L.A. and has been on the radar of recent sites over the past week. Apparently they appreciate Kid Cudi as an artist. Although I’m not the biggest advocate for the Ohio native, “The Pursuit Of Happiness” is quite the success track we soley could use in these rough times. Barbara has layed down an acoustic version of the song and here’s what they had to say about the format.

The attached song is a cover of Kid CuDi’s Pursuit of Happiness, which began as a joke after a long night of drinking, and will be your first introduction to Barbara. We are planning to leak a couple tracks from our forthcoming EP.

P.S. We usually don’t use samples, but you’ll notice a clear Iron & Wine sample and the faint humming of the legendary Sam Cooke.

Mumford and Sons|Unfisnished Business [White Lies Cover]

Mumford++Sons Mumford and Sons|Unfisnished Business [White Lies Cover]

Apparently if we were to look on a bill and see this line up at any event, a few question marks may arise. Two different genres and two completely different sounds. Mumford and Sons & White Lies are both massive in there own right so when this cover hit our inbox we were quite amused. The lads from London but a great banjo twist on “Unfinished Business” which you can listen to below. “Sigh No More” is in stores now.

V.V. Brown| Padlock [Gwen Guthrie Cover]

VV Brown 392x500 V.V. Brown| Padlock [Gwen Guthrie Cover]

V.V. Brown has already landed on U.S. soil and now she’s going back in time once again to slay another cover. This time Brown chooses the Gwen Guthrie 1980’s disco hit “Padlock.” A far bit abstract choice it surely is but then again, if you’ve payed attention to her previous covers, we’re not surprised. Expect a major push in the states over the next few months because the Northampton native is putting her stamp on 2010 early.

Over the past couple of weeks my love for Swedish band has been growing, after getting my hands on their five minute melody for Swedish Radio, jj covers, Akon and Rick Ross over samples of The Dream and the xx, with a touch of Charles Manson voice for fun.  Your saying WTF?  We know. This is great music!

VV+Brown++2009 VV Brown| Miss You (Rolling Stones Cover)

VV Brown has been on our artist watch and while she’s more of a known across the pond, she’ll be crossing over (legally this time) to the states on February 9 when her debut “Traveling Like The Light” hits stores. So if Ms. Brown is trying to get our attention with her dorm room Kid Cudi & Beyonce covers, after hearing this soultastic version of The Rolling Stones “Miss You,”we’re surely listening.

Holly Miranda| Ex Factor [Lauryn Hill Cover]

Holly Miranda who also shares double duties as vocalist of The Jealous Girlfriends, recently stopped by “The Black Cab Sessions” to perform a beautiful rendition of Lauryn Hill’s “Ex Factor.” Miranda is definitely one artist to follow as the new year rolls around. She’s currently on tour with The XX and Friendly Fires.
