Aloe Blacc| What’s Your Name

Aloe+Blacc1 Aloe Blacc| Whats Your Name

Looks like Aloe Blacc fever is about to begin, since our posting last week on the West Coast native, word is spreading fast of his “How To Make It In America” intro song “I Need A Dollar.” Although he’s far from being a newbie to the scene, Blacc just might has come upon a great thing, while many will praise his golden vocals, you may want to also peep his rhyme skills. “What Was Your Name” finds the classically trained trumpeter, singer-song writer & rapper switching it up and displaying a verbal onslaught that has us asking “Where’s this kid been?” two things, familiarize yourself with this artist,  then head over to Stonesthrow and purchase more of his work.

Jamie Cullum| Don’t Stop The Music (Rihanna Cover) [Video]

Jamie Cullum has once again proved why he’s one of the most talented artist of today, now we just wish more of his marketing was done here in the states. Cullum puts his own Jazzy spin on Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop The Music” in a way so dope and so original, it would be hard to not appreciate his attempt. Visuals are above and album “The Pursuit” is available now digitally but won’t hit the U.S. until early next year.

Kat Edmonson| Just Like Heaven (Maroon Cafe Premiere)

kate emonson 500x332 Kat Edmonson| Just Like Heaven (Maroon Cafe Premiere)

Lately, my email has been flooded and I blame health reasons for not getting back to everyone so soon! one that I overlooked was info on Kat Edmonson a name that by years end, should be well known. Edmonson the Austin Texas native has one of the most unique voices I heard in quite sometime. A voice that brings smiles to our faces and puts her in a category all by herself. Unlike Esperanza Spaulding, Melody Gardott and a few other artists to enter the genre over the past few years, what separates Edmonson is her quality band. A band that features J.J. Johnson (John Mayer), Chris Lovejoy (Norah Jones) Eric Revis (Branford Marsalis Quartet) & John Ellis (Charlie Hunter) now with a line-up like that, you know good music is being created. Check out “Just Like Heaven” a cover of The Cure (yes The Cure) classic and one of my favorite tunes by the band, where she gives it her own spin in a sultry Jazzy kind of way.

Alex And Sam| See You Through

alex and sam 325x500 Alex And Sam| See You Through

Warm weather and quiet times have been on my mind, it could be that city life has taken a toll on me, thus the reason for a much needed vacation.  West coast duo Alex and Sam have temporarily (music wise) provided a remedy for the time being.  American idol hopeful Samantha Sidley (Sam) who auditioned last season and wowed the judges, never quite made it on the show, rumor has it that after being selected to Hollywood, she was a no show.  Nowadays, that’s considered a smart move.  Thankfully, the machinery did not taint Sidley and she’s stayed true to her music roots.  After hearing her audition, there’s no doubt in my mind that she may have won the competition.  Moving on to present times and Silverlake California has one delightful band on the brink of noteriety.  Here’s a soothing tune “See You Through” from there EP “Sounds Like This One” in stores now.

Jamie Cullum Scores Big With Gran Torino

Jamie Cullum has resurfaced with the compelling golden globe nominated video for “Gran Torino” the theme song & title from Clint Eastwoods latest film. For us to say that this is Jamie at his best would be tough, why? well if you go through his discography, then you’d see his previous hits, that has gone under appreciated here in the states.

Cullum has spent much of 2008 writing and recording material for his next album — the follow up to his breakout albums ‘Twentysomething’ and ‘Catching Tales’ — slated for release in early 2009. After almost three years, it looks like we just may get a full length, but for now this should do.
