This year was the resurgence of folk music! so why not end it with someone who revitalized the genre. Laura Marling, Laura Marling, Laura Marling, what can I say about such a talented individual. Well besides saying her name three times like some sort of urban legend, she was the sole reason why my life had an awakening during a very dark point. Singing of pain, conviction & loveloss with so much emphasis makes you want to buy this young darling a drink on the house. What amazes me is that after all the nominations and accolades received before and during the Mercury Prize for her highly praised “Alas I cannot Swim“, Marlings music is still not as popular in the states.
Hopefully after her second release, Reading Berkshires “Golden Child” (Eddie Murphy & hat not included) will open up the flood gates on deaf ears of our lovely Yanks Americans here. Below is an unreleased tune “Man Sings About Romance” where Marling channels her inner Regina Spektor, the weather is gloomy and we needed this here at the cafe.
