Noah and the Whale| Blue Skies [Video]

Noah and the Whale returns with a video for there touching heartbreaking ballad “Blue Skies.” This is a far stretch from last years surprising debut “Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down.” An album full of deep dark tracks of pain and love lost. We’re sure most of the new work focuses on frontman Charlie Fink’s previous relationship with the lovely Laura Marling. Losing someone is never easy, but time and prayer always helps.  “First Days Of Spring” is out next week.

New Music From Mumford And Sons| The Cave

While half of our Fresh Faces for ‘09 have released new material, we’re still waiting for our favorite lads across the pond Mumford and Sons highly anticipated debut release, to see the light of day. We predicted a massive fan base and quite possibly breakout act of this year, after hearing a track off of there latest Ep, our predictions still should hold. Already hometown favorites and 1 fourth of the folk movement that includes Noah & The Whale, Laura Marling & Johnny Flynn, Marcus Mumford and the boys are a relevation musically, with a cure to soothe the dreariest of days. So until that day when we can get our hands on a full length, enjoy the warmness of “The Cave” a banjo driven folkfest that’s quite lovely if you ask us.

Laura Marling stopped by WXPN 88.5 (NPR) recently to discuss her brief stint as a member with Noah & The Whale and address some listeners who think her amazing debut “Alas I Cannot Swim” is over melancholic.  Laura also performed  a few cuts from the album and a chilling cover of Mumford & Sons “Roll Away Stone.”

Laura Marling 2008’s Folk Artist Of The Year

laura marling 484x500 Laura Marling 2008s Folk Artist Of The Year

This year was the resurgence of folk music! so why not end it with someone who revitalized the genre. Laura Marling, Laura Marling, Laura Marling, what can I say about such a talented individual.  Well besides saying her name three times like some sort of urban legend, she was the sole reason why my life had an awakening during a very dark point. Singing of pain, conviction & loveloss with so much emphasis makes you want to buy this young darling a drink on the house.  What amazes me is that after all the nominations and accolades received before and during the Mercury Prize for her highly praised “Alas I cannot Swim“, Marlings music is still not as popular in the states.

Hopefully after her second release, Reading Berkshires “Golden Child” (Eddie Murphy & hat not included) will open up the flood gates on deaf ears of our lovely Yanks Americans here. Below is an unreleased tune “Man Sings About Romance” where Marling channels her inner Regina Spektor, the weather is gloomy and we needed this here at the cafe.
