Mateo at SOB’s Tonight

mateo2 Mateo at SOBs Tonight

If you live in the New York area we suggest you come and join us and watch the next big R&B sensation, Mateo perform at the legendary SOBs.  Check his video for Get To Know Me after the press release below.

Singing sensation Mateo has his SOBs debut this coming December. When MATEO walks onstage, sits at his piano and starts one of his heartfelt songs it’s clear that this is an artist on a mission. It’s no coincidence that Mateo lists Lauryn Hill, India.Arie, Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Justin Timberlake, and Robin Thicke as influences but he’s also quick to give a nod to alternative acts such as Radiohead, Coldplay, Daft Punk and Kanye West. “Everything is merging together, and I like that in my music; a mixture rather than one flavor only; R&B/Pop/Alternative/Soul…Urban Mod, if you want to pick a new genre.”

Mostly recorded in a humble apartment studio in Los Angeles, MATEO’s upcoming album artfully avoids the assembly line of modern pop music by having thoughtful lyricism and sweeping melodies at its core. The first single, “Complicated” is an example of that, with its introspective and honest description an unintended love affair that is now reaching critical mass.

Paloma Faith| New York [Live At The ICA]

Paloma Faith performed this incredible version of her amazing song “New York” from the forthcoming debut album “Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful” at a recent ICA event.  Powerful performance if you ask us and further raises our anticipation meter for the upcoming release.

Paloma Faith| New York [Video]

Hotly tipped and soon to be breakout artist Paloma Faith returns with her seductive sound and brand new single, the heartbreaking ballad “New York.” We’ve been rocking to Stone Cold Sobber since early Spring and it’s good to see a nice change of pace from Faith. This is a true tale of love gone bad and the effect of losing someone close to you. Yes we’ve all been there before but as long as we have beautiful tunes such as this, each day gets a little better. “Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful.” is in stores September 28th.

Sharon Van Etten| For You| Video

Earlier in the week we premiered the track “For You” from the talented Sharon Van Etten, who’s really gathering a huge amount of buzz and high anticipation of her upcoming album which is hitting stores next week. Here’s the video for the tune that reminds me of why I have such a fascination for Black & White, simple but still very effective.

Matt & Kim| Strip Down For New Video Lessons Learned

A while back I stressed my guilty pleasure for the Matt and Kim delight “Daylight.” Unfortunately, that’s where the praises stop! nothing against the duo personally, for I feel there sound caters to a specific music crowd that I just don’t care to indulge with. However, with the latest release of “Lessons Learned” it would be hard to have this go unnoticed. I’m still baffled by the brilliancy of this video! let alone having the balls (literally) to shoot a piece like this in Times Square. Takes the meaning of strolling through 42nd street to another level.

Diane Birch| Fire Escape

diane birch1 500x328 Diane Birch| Fire Escape

Diane Birch, the Portland native and current New Yorker is our latest new discovery. Blessed with soulful-stirring vocals very reminiscent of early Motown. Birch apparently has the lineage when it comes to the genre, growing up with a preacher father as a youth in the church, S-Curve Records latest signee has seen her fair share of traveling from South Africa, Zimbabwe and even Australia. Bible Belt, which will be released in May has a line up that includes The Roots’ Adam Blackstone, George Portner, Lenny Kaye & Stanton Moore. Here’s the first single “Fire Escape” a Southern ode to love lost.

Little Dragon Live In New York City Tonight!!!

little dragon Little Dragon Live In New York City Tonight!!!

As you should all know by now, my fanciness for Little Dragon runs deep.  How deep? well try three years deep! since the days when Yukimi (lead vocals) was putting it down with the Koop & creating soothing sounds with the Hird.  There debut album which is by far one of the best listens over the past decade (purchase and find out) leads us to three facts about the greatest thing to come out of Sweden since ABBA {jokes}.

1. You’ve read about them on our site {click here}

2. We were one of the first to break an interview with them{click here}

3. They will be in New York City tonight at Le Poissonrouge 8pm {Purchase tickets here}

So in honor of the first ever “Little Dragon Day” here at the cafe, we decided to reach into the files and give you a vintage video “Test” right after the click and New Yorkers, we’ll see you tonight!!!!!!!
