Rain Machine | Give Blood [Video]

// November 24th, 2009 // No Comments » // Video

The side project of Kyp Malone, Rain Machine is steadily becoming one of our favorite albums of the year. While TV on The Radio‘s latest masterpiece, Dear Science, sounds like it was recorded over and over again to perfection, Rain Machine has a organic sound which draws us in. Check out the video for Give Blood above.

*My first draft of this article had about two computer scroll screens of words. I decided to narrow it down to one screen which unfortunately should have been on the site since last Sunday (sorry folks…won’t happen again)*

We arrived at the venue early, partly because I had forgotten to print my tickets and another part was getting in a bit early to soak up the feel. After waiting for a hour to get my tickets printed, we headed into the eye of the storm. As soon as we walked in The Roots started. Perfect timing?  Perhaps..or they knew London D was in the house (I kid I kid). Opening up they let us know we were in for a great show, and they had a few guest they wanted to introduce, The JabbaWokeeZ, Jordan Knight and Donnie Walberg of New Kids on The Block.  While the JabbaWokeeZ did their dance number, Donnie Walberg and Black Thought flowed back and forth.  It’s amazing, that I respect Donnie Walberg more as an actor then a musician.  Surprisingly, he did a good job.  The Roots went through a few hits, such as ‘Get Busy‘ (sans the locked up Peedi Crack), ‘The Web’, and Curtis Mayfield’s, ‘Move on Up.’  After tearing it up for about a half an hour, they let us know who was performing the rest of the day.

Mercy Arms | Half Right [Video]

// May 13th, 2009 // No Comments » // Video

Mercy Arms is an rock band from Sydney, Australia. They formed in early 2005, the four-piece is composed of Thom Moore (lead vocals, guitar), Kirin J. Callinan (guitar), Ash Moss (bass guitar) and Julian Sudek (drums, percussion).  As they were coming up as a group they toured in Australia with The Strokes and record with Dave Sitek from TV on the Radio.  A big accomplishment for a new band.

We got our hands on their self-titled debut album, which came out in August 2008.  It’s some of the best music we’ve heard in a while.  Sadly, it might be the last time we hear from Mercy Arms.  Word has it they broke up in February of this year, due to creative differences.  A bit of good news is that they have side projects which include ‘Fashion Launchers Rocket Launchers‘ and ‘Kirin J. Callinan‘.  If you are able to get your hand on this album, you won’t be disappointed.   If not, enjoy the video above!

marissa nadler 500x333 Marissa Nadler East Coast Folkstress Releases New Album & Single

The picture above could either confuse you or scare you! allow us to give it a little clarity. Marissa Nadler is the latest find in our folk department. We were tipped on her music a few months back and what intrigues us about her is the ghostly vocals eeriely similar to Hope Sandoval. Nadler is not new to the music scene, in fact, a fourth album “Little Hells” will see daylight on March 3. “River of Dirt,” the latest single, displays the Boston natives ethereal voice over an array of instrumental arrangements. Creepy it may be, but also very effective.

TV On The Radio | Stork & Owl [Live at Le Live De La Sema]

// January 26th, 2009 // No Comments » // Video

We here at the cafe get tons of music and videos sent to us each week.  And even the heavyweight indie artist get lost in the shuffle. Speaking of which, this has been in my inbox for a while and I never sent it out.  But this is an awesome performance of Stork & Owl from TV On The Radio’s equally awesome album, Dear Science.
