It’s that time of year again. The Roots 3rd annual Picnic is upon us. Black Thought, ?uestlove and the rest of the crew, get together and bring out some known acts a few up and coming music acts and rumor has it that a certain old school group might be reuniting *cough cough Run DMC* Tickets are on sale now, and the concert is June 5th an Festival Pier in Philadelphia.

While we deal with suddenly warmer weather on the north east coast (It’s a shame 40F is warm), the thought of spring pops into our mind. New Zealand artist, The Ruby Sun’s latest track Cranberry evokes the feelings of summer days and lounging in a park. If you can get through the 1 minute intro, you will fall in love like we did. This weekend, MTV posted videos of Vampire Weekend’s Unplugged Session [here]. Vampire Weekend performed a few cuts from their debut album [M79 above], as well as some tracks from their sophomore release, Contra. After a week of listening to Contra, I have to say it is a strong second effort by VW. We don’t review albums over here, but a review that hit it spot on was spotted at thecouchsessions.com [here]

Contra hits stores January 12 via XL Recordings.

Vampire Weekend stopped by Juan’s Basement and performed White Sky, a cut they did on Jimmy Fallon last year.  They stuck around Juan’s Basement for a few and even did a quick interview.  Head to Pitchfork to see more of the interview and them perform Cousins [here].

One week before their highly anticipated sophomore album, Contra drops, Vampire Weekend allows us to get sneak listen to the whole thing.  From what I’ve heard (keep in mind I’ve been up for the past 36 hours), I love it.  Head over to MySpace [here] and listen for yourself, and then come back here and let us know what you think.

Early this week we gave you Vampire Weekend’s latest track Cousins [here]. Which we had up for approximately 0.10 seconds, before we were told to remove it. Well today, we have the video for Cousins, and this vid ain’t going nowhere. From the first two singles we’ve heard it safe to say that we are really looking forward to VW’s sophomore album, Contra.

Vampire Weekend have leaked another song from the highly anticipated “Contra,” which will be released in a few months.  Sophomore albums usually raise concerns, just ask a few current artist who’ve failed to create the winning formula which made there debut so popular.  Although “Cousins” could’ve very well been a b-side to an “A-Punk” single, it still gives us hope until the full length sees the light of day in January.  If Ezra and auto-tune is any indication of what’s to come, then the hype leading up to was all worth it.

Yesterday at the Cafe we had Vampire Weekends debut album playing from the speakers as we were recalling memories of 08. Today we notice that someone was kind enough to record VW performance from earlier this week (11/8) at Lafayette, California. The video above, California English is off of Vampire Weekend’s forthcoming album, Contra. The song sounds like nothing off their first album, but it still has a Vampire Weekend feel to it (what ever that means).
